Frequently Asked Questions

Is it difficult to wakesurf?

Most people get up their first or second tries, and we’ll give you plenty of instruction. Remember that the wave is pretty constant so once you get a hang of it, it’s pretty easy to enjoy nice long rides every time. How to Get Up Wakesurfing - video by EVO

Can I use a GoPro?

Of course. Shoot away! And we’re also happy to shoot some video and pictures for you.

What is your cancellation/re-booking policy?

We understand that things come up. In the event you have to cancel, we ask that you give WakeSurf 585 at least 48-hour notice. For cancellations that occur within less than 48 hours you will be charged half the total session amount booked, plus any credit card fees incurred. We are happy to reschedule your session if notified 48 hours or longer prior to your scheduled surf session. In the event that inclement weather makes it impossible or unsafe to go out, we will coordinate with you to reschedule at a time that is most convenient for you.

Please call or text 585-500-8923 or email brad@wakesurf585.com to cancel or reschedule your surf session.

What is pricing?

Check pricing and schedule your outing.

Is there an age range?

Anyone from 12 to 60+ can enjoy wakesurfing. All it takes is a sense of adventure and a desire to have some fun!

Where are you located?

We’re located Middle Dock at Sutter’s Marina on Irondequoit Bay. Get directions and park or drop-off near Middle Dock. We will meet you at the entrance.

Which way do I stand?

Left in front of right (“regular”)? Right in front of left (“goofy”)? The answer is: whichever way is more comfortable. If you’ve ever skateboarded or snowboarded, or even just run and slid on some ice, that’s probably your best orientation. If you’re unsure, stand up and have someone lightly push you back, whichever foot steps back first is usually the foot that will be in the rear of the surfboard. Your dominant foot is usually in the back.

What is the max people per party?

10 people per session. That allows plenty of room for captain and crew, as well as your things (clothes, food, drinks, etc.). Not all people have to surf. We’re sure grandma and grandpa to would love to watch!

How fast?

One of the cool things about WakeSurfing is the boat is only going 8-11 MPH, which means when you fall it doesn’t hurt. And your swimsuit won’t disintegrate on impact.

What can/can’t I bring?

Bring a great attitude and be ready to ride. Wear your swimsuit and bring towels, a sweatshirt, any food or drinks you’d like and a GoPro if you want. We’ll provide life jackets and water/sports drinks.

What are water temperatures?

For the most part you’ll be comfortable in just a swimsuit. However, it can get chilly, so feel free to bring a wetsuit. And be sure to bring towels and some warm clothes for the boat.
